POST – PARTITION INDIA’S SO CALLED CONSTITUTION REPUBLIC AND INDEPENDENCE (PART 1)

Make analytical as well as paraphrastic perusal of the pillars of constitution of post partition India and her republic. the setting up in India of a republican form of government is an “act of the British policy”. Responsible government and republican government are Co-Terminus phrases. On August 20,1917 Lord Montagu, the then secretary of state for India, announced : - “The policy of His Majesty’s Govt. with which the government of India is in complete accord is increasing the association and the gradual development of self governing institutions with a view to the progressive realization of responsible government in India as an “Integral part of the British Empire.”
In 1947 or round about that some changes were made in terminology of the words. India was made “a republic on Jan 26,1950 in persuance of the announcement of the policy of His Majesty’s in the house of commons” on August 20, 1917 by Mr. Mantagu, the then secretary of state for India. “To open the door of the structure of British Empire for setting –up a republic within it a few terms were evolved in a meeting of the common-wealth Prime Ministers held in London” in April 1949. on the conclusion of the meeting a joint declaration with the approval of His Majesty, the King, was issued on April 27, 1949. As incorporated in the declaration, the P
rime Minister of divided India (Discovered By Nehru) Sriman Nehru, on behalf of the Govt. of divided India declared and affirmed India’s desire (1) to continue her full membership of the commonwealth of nations (2) to continue her full acceptance of the King as symbol of the free association of the independent member nations and as such the head of the Commonwealth (3) to remain united as free and equal member with the other members of commonwealth and co-operate with them in persuit of peace, liberty and progress. “Commonwealth is synonymous with the British Empire and commonwealth association is an association within the British Empire (Commonwealth) of self-governing units of the said Empire.” Dominion was replaced by member nations of the commonwealth and British Empire by Commonwealth of Nations or commonwealth. A British government pamphlet named “What is the Commonwealth” Published in 1956 says: “For a long time term “British Empire” was used and the self governing countries (other then the UK) was called Dominion. These terms have now given place to commonwealth or commonwealth of nations and member nations of commonwealth”. Encyclopedia Britannica of 1953 and 1955 may be looked into on this point.
The question is “Why is India described as dominion if she is not
one? And it is known to all that the republic of India continues to be member nation of commonwealth, “The head of which is the British Queen.”
